Heidi Linn Lambros is currently an Assistant Appellate Defender with the Office of the State Appellate Defender in Chicago. Ms. Lambros graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 1996, and clerked for two years during law school at the Cook County Public Defenders Office in the Homicide Task Force. In 2001, Ms. Lambros received an LL.M. in Child and Family Law from Loyola University in Chicago. Ms. Lambros represented children in the child protection system, as well as in delinquency proceedings, through Loyola’s ChildLaw Clinic.

Ms. Lambros has been with the Office of the State Appellate Defender since 2002. She has defended five criminal cases before the Illinois Supreme Court, and won an outright reversal of a conviction for her client before the Illinois Supreme Court in In re Ryan B., 212 Ill. 2d 226 (2004), and a remand for a new hearing in People v. Brown, 225 Ill. 2d 188 (2007). She has also defended many cases in the Illinois Appellate Court, and won outright reversals of criminal convictions in People v. Scott, 366 Ill. App. 3d 638 (1st Dist. 2006) and In re J.T., 341 Ill. App. 3d 517 (1st Dist. 2003). Ms. Lambros is also currently on the Advisory Council of the Illinois Juvenile Defender Resource Institute, run in partnership with Northwestern University School of Law and the MacArthur Foundation, which seeks to extend resources to juvenile defense attorneys throughout the state.

Sara McVey is Vice President of Marketing and Director of Operations for Mather LifeWays. Sara is responsible for overseeing marketing, public relations, and communications of senior living residences in Illinois and Arizona, Mather’s—More Than a Café locations, Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging, and the organization as a whole, as well as directing the operations for two senior living residences—Mather Pavilion and Mather Place of Wilmette.
Sara has played an essential leadership role since joining Mather LifeWays in 2003, resulting in a strong and unique brand and national recognition for innovations in marketing to older adults. She holds more than 17 years of marketing and sales experience, including Vice President of Account Services for The Food Group, a division of WPP, where she was responsible for obtaining new business and directing the marketing efforts for various Fortune 500 clients. Previously, she served as International Director of Sales and Marketing for The Carnegie Clubs in England and Scotland. Additionally, Sara was Assistant Vice President for Classic Residence by Hyatt, where she was responsible for managing its marketing and advertising efforts across the country.

Sara has two Bachelor's Degrees in health education and communications from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. She recently earned her Executive Master’s Degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. Additionally, Sara serves on the Brain Fitness Advisory Board for McKnight’s Long-term Care and is a Board Member for Esperanza Community Services in Chicago, Illinois.

Robert M. Stephenson Mr. Stephenson is currently engaged in the private practice of law at RM Stephenson, LLC, where he represents clients in a wide range of matters including direct appeals, post-conviction petitions, supervisory orders, clemency proceedings, as well as small business matters.
He also serves as Of Counsel, to the Children's School of Oak Park, a 501c3 organization. In December 2009, Mr. Stephenson opened ILCJE.com.

Mr. Stephenson graduated from Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law. While in law school Mr. Stephenson served as member of the National Moot Court Team, Associate Justice of the Moot Court and Lawyering Skills Governing Board, Assistant Director of the Appellate Advocacy Counsel, and as a Member of the Faculty Tenure Committee.

Mr. Stephenson clerked in the Criminal Appellate Division of the United States Attorney's Office, served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Dennis P. Moroney in the Milwaukee Circuit Court, as a Judicial Extern to Ohio Supreme Court Justice Deborah Cook, and worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Peggy Bryant of the 10th District Court of Appeals in Columbus, Ohio. Upon relocating to Oak Park, Illinois, Mr. Stephenson served as Assistant Defender in the Office of the State Appellate Defender where he represented clients before the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts.

In addition, Robert Stephenson served eight years in the United States Army Reserves, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1997. He worked as legislative assistant to Oregon State Senator Randy Miller, and was appointed by Governor John Kitzhaber to the Oregon Employment Department Board of Advisors.

Board of Advisors

Steven W. Becker is an Assistant Appellate Defender at the Office of the State Appellate Defender in Chicago, Illinois, where he prepares criminal appeals and presents argument in the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court. Mr. Becker graduated cum laude from the DePaul University College of Law, earning a Certificate in International and Comparative Law, as well as Order of the Coif and Order of the Barrister honors. He is licensed in both Illinois and the District of Columbia and practices in both state and federal court. Mr. Becker is an Adjunct Professor at the DePaul University College of Law, a Senior Research Fellow at DePaul’s International Human Rights Law Institute, and Co-editor in Chief of the Revue Internationale de Droit Pénal, a comparative international law journal published in France.

Mr. Becker also lectures throughout the world on topics of domestic and international criminal law, most recently in Russia and China. In 2008, he was selected as a Fulbright Senior Specialist grantee for Croatia, where he lectured at the University of Zagreb Law School. In addition, since 2003, Mr. Becker has served as the moot court coordinator for the annual specialization course in international criminal law held at the Istituto Superiore Internazionale di Scienze Criminali in Siracusa, Italy.

Mr. Becker has authored more than 25 law review articles and book chapters on various topics of domestic and international law, ranging from police torture and DNA testing to universal jurisdiction and the adverse effects on the criminal justice system of law enforcement and intelligence sharing. His articles have been translated into Croatian, French, Portuguese, and Romanian. In 2008, Mr. Becker co-edited a book with Croatian law professor Davor Derencinovic entitled International Terrorism: The Future Unchained?.

Patricia Mysza is a Supervisor at the Office of the State Appellate Defender, where she supervises a team of lawyers who prepare criminal appeals and present argument in the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court. Ms. Mysza graduated from Loyola University School of Law in 1986. She began working as an Assistant Appellate Defender at the Office of the State Appellate Defender, Fourth District, in Springfield, in 1986, and moved to the Supreme Court Unit in 1988, working on death penalty appeals. She worked for a year at the National Legal Aid and Defender Association in Washington D.C., which provides support to defender offices throughout the country. She also represented death row inmates in state and federal proceedings in private practice. She returned to the Office of the State Appellate Defender in Chicago in 1992, and has been a Supervisor since 2002. Ms. Mysza served on the Board of Directors of Chicago Legal Aid to Incarcerated Mothers (CLAIM) from 1995 to 1998.
